Masters Swimming

Swimming is a sport that can be enjoyed, either as a leisure activity or competitively at any age. The exercise helps to maintain mobility as well as helping to prevent conditions such as heart disease, osteoporosis and diabetes.

If you are a swimmer aged 18 years and over you can compete in masters competitions. Masters compete in five-year age bands (e.g. 18-24, 25-29). Competition is available in all four strokes and over all distances up to 1,500 metres. There is no upper age limit.

Session Times are Wednesday 8.00 - 9.00pm & Friday 7.30 - 8.15pm at Prince Regent.

Competitive swimmers can swim with the main squad at other times

Thirteen individual and four relay regional records were broken but the best was saved for the last individual race of the day when Marcel Scholten from Modernians Swimming Club broke the British record in the mens 45/49 years 100m breaststroke when clocking a time of 1:10.68. Marcel also recorded an East Region record in the 50m freestyle.
In the first event of the day, the 400m freestyle saw two regional records broken, Ashley Buck of Newmarket in the mens 30/34 year age group and Pat Reynolds of Beavers Masters (Bedford) in the women's 60/64 age group. Both Ashley and Pat went on to break another record, Ashley in the 200m individual medley and Pat in the 100m backstroke.
