Water Polo

Water Polo has a long and proud history at Brighton. The Club was playing exhibition matches in 1890 by the West Pier; our first women's team competed in 1902, and over the years we've produced many international players - and hosted many international teams.

Today, our players range from age 7 through to 76… we train, we compete and we have lots of fun along the way.

You’ll find details of our groups further down the page, but if you’re interested in finding out more, or coming and giving polo a try, click on the button:

Juniors

Our junior members have hour long sessions, learning the basics of water polo from experienced players and coaches. They learn to  tread water, pass and shoot in fun packed sessions – rounded off with a mini game each week. There’s no water polo experience needed, just the ability to swim. Please contact us for more details.

Session times – Fridays, 7.30pm at Prince Regent.
Minimum age – 7 years

Development Squad

The development squad is aged 13 – 18. This is the place to learn more complicated skills being coached by experienced players. The first half is held in a shallow pool, but the second half is in the deep-water flexi pool – providing a more realistic game experience, and the chance to work on attacks and defence and expand existing skills. No experience necessary – but it helps to be a confident swimmer.

Session times: Friday, 8.30pm at Prince Regent

Women's Polo

Brighton Women’s Water Polo team have history dating back to 1902, with a small group of women reportedly playing the first women’s water polo match against Swansea SC. Thankfully since 1902 there have been some changes to the swimwear, but the pioneering spirit remains.

We are now actively recruiting new members to form a team to compete in the London League.

If you have played before… get in contact, for a chance to shape this reviving team.

If you haven’t played before… get in contact to learn a fun new sport with a team that will always have your back

If you’re nervous… we’ll buddy you up with someone to show you the ropes.

If you’re worried about not being able to make every session, don’t worry lots of us do shift work or have other commitments.

We also have close links with the LGBTQ+ water polo team London Orca, who helped us play our first match for many years in 2022. If you’re non-binary/trans we know sports team can throw up some difficult issues for you. If you want a supportive team, who will help you navigate all of this, just come down and join us.

Session times: Friday, 9.00pm at Prince Regent
